The history of Faberge museum
The official opening of the first privately owned Faberge museum took place in St. Petersburg in 2013 in the Shuvalov palace. The Faberge museum was founded by the Link of Times Cultural-Historical Foundation, established in 2004 by the Russian entrepreneur Viktor Vekselberg with the purpose of repatriating lost cultural valuables to Russia. The idea of creating a museum dedicated to the creative work of the great Russian jeweler Carl Faberge came to the Link of Times Foundation after the purchase of a unique collection of Faberge works owned by Malcolm Forbes. Stating from this moment, the Foundation started forming the collection of Russian decorative-applied art and fine arts, which as of today contains more than 4000 works, and in terms of its size and the superlative quality of its works has become one of the best collections in the world.
What you will see in Faberge museum
During the tour of St Petersburg Faberge museum, you’ll see a collection of Russian silverware made in the 19th century. In the magnificent Blue room they display nine Imperial Easter Eggs with surprises made to the order of the last of the Romanovs – the Emperors Alexander III and Nicholas II. This collection is the best in the world in terms of its number of large Easter Eggs made by House of Faberge: there are 14 Faberge eggs altogether in the Blue Room. The House of Faberge created 50 imperial eggs altogether. Each one of them took a year’s worth of work, starting just after Easter, and was barely finished by Holy Week a year later, after which Carl Faberge personally delivered each new Easter masterpiece to the Tsar. In the Gold room you will find on display gifts from the Tsar, fantasy objects made by Faberge masters and gold presentation boxes. Furthermore, St. Petersburg Faberge museum has a great collection of Russian porcelain of the 19th century, mainly made by the Imperial Porcelain Plant as well as the works with enamel of the leading Russian firms.

Please note, that arranging a private tour at this museum is quite expensive. The admission fee is USD 300 per group of 2-15 persons. The museum also arranges scheduled tours in English daily during the high season, but they publish the schedule a week in advance and only offer one tour in English a day with only 10 spots in the group. The start time is always different that is why it is almost impossible to incorporate this tour into a full-day tour itinerary. That is why we suggest you explore the museum freely with an audio guide, then the admission fee is about USD 12 per person and the start and end time of the tour is flexible.
