The tour starts with a visit to the Monument to the heroic defenders of Leningrad on Victory Square. In the Siege Memorial Hall they display an impressive exhibition, dedicated to the defence and the siege of Leningrad. Among the exhibits you will see a short documental film that was shot by several cameramen in the besieged city. There are no words in this film, just the sounds that could be heard in the city then.
Then you will visit Piskarev Memorial cemetery, wich is a special, even sacred place in St. Petersburg that doesn't let us forget the tremendous tragedy that the city has survived. This is the place where they buried more than 520 000 Leningrad citizens and soldiers who had died during the siege. You will see the Eternal Flame that burns here since 1960 commemorating those who gave their lives for the city.
Next on your way is the Museum of the defence of Leningrad. The exhibition is dedicated to the history of the defence of Leningrad and to the life in the besieged city. Here you will see private belongings of the citizens, army newspapers, diaries, letters from the front and pictures of soldiers, honors and so on. They also have restored a part of a plain flat where people lived during the war.
